‘Slots’ sign being removed from Newport Grand

News

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — Part of the iconic image of Newport Grand is being removed Thursday morning, when the new owners, Twin River Management Group, will remove the “Slots” sign from the side of the building.

Officials with the city of Newport had requested the sign be taken down.

The work is expected to run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Twin River’s acquisition of Newport Grand was completed last week.

The company also wants to transfer Newport Grand’s gambling license to a new facility in Tiverton, off Route 81, right on the line with Fall River. That proposal requires both local and statewide voter approval.
