NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — At least two people suffered serious injuries Friday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on I-95 in North Attleboro.
The crash took place just before 6:30 a.m. between Exits 5 and 6. According to Massachusetts State Police, a car traveling in the right southbound lane went into the middle lane and collided with a pickup truck, causing both vehicles to careen across the median and enter the northbound side of the highway, where six more vehicles crashed into them.
The driver of the car, a 29-year-old Roslindale woman, and her passenger, a 25-year-old Brockton woman, were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said some occupants of other vehicles were taken to Rhode Island and Sturdy Memorial Hospitals to be treated for injuries ranging from minor to serious. They included two Pawtucket women, ages 26 and 57, a Providence woman, 25, a Tewksbury man, 38, an Attleboro woman, 25, a Randolph man, 29, and a Southington, Conn. woman, 55.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The crash caused a significant traffic backup on I-95. All lanes of the highway have since reopened.
