The crash happened a few minutes before 3 p.m. on 495 North just before I-95, and according to the Massachusetts State Police, two vehicles were involved.

A 53-year-old Plainville woman was traveling north when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the second car, also traveling northbound. Both vehicles rolled several times before crashing into the woods.

Eight people were involved in the crash with seven listed in serious condition, but with non-life threatening injuries.

Five passengers in the second car were children, but their ages and hospital statuses are unknown, according to State Police.

Two medical helicopters were called to the scene to transport two crash victims to Massachusetts General Hospital. State Police said that both lanes of the highway were closed to allow the helicopters to land.

As of about 3:50p.m, the highway was back open to traffic which was significantly impacted due to the crash cleanup.
