EXETER, R.I. (WPRI) — On Monday, ceremonies were held all over the country to recognize members of the armed forces — who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

A tribute took place Monday at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Ceremony in Exeter. The ceremony included a wreath laying and a moment of silence to remember the lives lost.

First Gentleman Andy Moffit spoke in place of his wife, Gov. Gina Raimondo, who was recovering from an illness.

“Today here, at our Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, let us resolve once again to remember our dedicated, courageous veterans, particularly those who are our family members and never working for our safer, more peaceful and more equal world for which they fought so hard,” he said.

A parade was held Monday on High Street in Westerly.

The ceremony, organized by the Westerly-Pawcatuck Veterans Board of Control, started around 8:30 a.m. in Pawcatuck, Conn. and finished in Wilcox Park.
