PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has once again delayed the restart of repairs to the Washington Bridge, Eyewitness News has learned.
The DOT was supposed to begin re-striping the lanes Friday night into Saturday morning to make room for repairs to the bridge, but Spokesperson Charles St. Martin said those measures will be delayed into next week due to weather concerns.
The project was put on pause after the initial traffic pattern caused major congestion and backups all the way to the Massachusetts line. The DOT then promised to go back to the drawing board with a better traffic pattern.
St. Martin said the project should resume sometime next week, though he did not know exactly what day.
