RIDOH: All healthcare providers who prescribe opioid now in one database

News

PROVIDENCE,R.I. (WPRI) — Healthcare providers all over the state are taking action to help curb the opioid crisis.

The Rhode Island Department of Health announced Thursday that all providers who prescribe opioid have now been enrolled in a statewide database.

According to a news release, the database is known as the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).

Officials say it will allow healthcare providers to see what controlled-substances are being prescribed to patients.

The PDMP is aimed to help over-prescribing, prevent drug diversion and unsafe combinations of medications.

This is a part of Governor Raimondo’s plan to reduce overdose deaths by a third in three years time.
