RI Statehouse Christmas tree lights up

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The RI Statehouse’s Christmas tree was first lit up for the holiday season on Thursday night, courtesy of over 2,000 little lightbulbs.

Hundreds of Rhode Islanders joined Governor Gina Raimondo for her second year hosting the Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration.

The original tree for the occasion was deemed too small and will instead be placed outside the State House, while a new 20-foot tree was brought in as backup.

A “Heroes Tree” was also decorated to honor veterans.

Santa and Mrs. Clause were at the event to take pictures as well.

Eyewitness News reporter Kelly Sullivan was live at the event. See her full report above and her Facebook Live with Santa and kids here below.
