NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Rhode Island boutique soda pop bottler is getting in on the 2016 election year hoopla — by brewing a pair of sodas symbolizing the top two candidates for president.
Yacht Club Bottling Works announced Tuesday its “Hillary’s Liberal Limeade” and “Donald’s Populist Punch” are now on sale. The bottle labels feature caricatures of candidates Hillary Clinton (Democrat) and Donald Trump (Republican).
The blue “Liberal Limeade” is raspberry lime in flavor, and the red “Populist Punch” is a standard red fruit punch with strawberry and peach tones.
“We really wanted to have some fun with the election,” said John Sgambato, the owner of Yacht Club, on Tuesday. The sodas “let people have a little taste of the edgy candidates — both flavors have a slight bite to them,” he said.
The soda company will also be keeping tabs in a “soda pop poll,” monitoring how much of each soda is sold. The results will only be released after the election in November.
Frankie Galasso, a Rhode Island cartoonist, drew the caricatures, along with the political parties’ respective mascots, the Republican elephant and Democrat donkey.
The bottler says its sodas contain pure cane sugar and are made with natural artesian water from a well at its site in North Providence.
