(WPRI) — Complete strangers are offering anything they can to get wildfire victims back on their feet and among those are some of Hollywood’s stars, including one R.I. native actor and producer.
These deadly and devastating wildfires are affecting the rich and poor. So far, nearly 8,000 homes have been destroyed including mansions and estates owned by celebrities. Some of those stars are using their fame and social media platforms to help these victims.
One famous actor and producer is making headlines for turning his entire Twitter profile into a support page for victims.
James Woods, who grew up in Warwick and graduated from Pilgrim High School, had been tweeting non-stop for the past week. He’s created hashtags that are helping reunite families with their loved ones and pets. For example, a tweet posted overnight says a dog named Bear was reunited with his family, thanks in part to Woods’ efforts.
Woods is also sharing lists of missing people and helping recruit others to perform welfare checks and posting information on resources in the area for victims, like the tweet below with information on free clothing for campfire families.
The star is also posting helpful hints and advice on how to care for pets during these wildfires.
Other big named celebrities are putting in a helpful hand.
TMZ reports Kim and Kanye West hired private firefighters to protect their $60 million home. In doing so, they also saved countless other homes on their block.
Other stars like Gerard Butler and Alyssa Milano are using their platforms on social media to encourage donations to CA fire departments.
