WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — It was a successful walk for a worthy cause Saturday morning in Goddard Memorial State Park.
Four hundred and fifty people registered for the Rhode Island Brain Tumor Walk.
The event was organized by Meredith and Brian Lindberg in honor of their four-year-old daughter Makayla who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.
Maykayla was recently featured in our Eyewitness News series ‘Small but Strong‘.
Her family is hoping to make Saturday’s walk a yearly event to raise money for research to aid the fight against brain tumors.
“If we can help one other person either learn from Makayla or with the money we raise, then we’ve done something good and we’ve done the best we can with what we have,” said Meredith Lindberg.
The event raised $33,000, surpassing its goal of $30,000.
