PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island’s state Retirement Board filed a lawsuit in Superior Court Friday seeking to block pension payments to former House Majority Leader Gerard Martineau.

Martineau pleaded guilty in 2007 to two counts of mail fraud as part of a federal influence-peddling investigation known as Operation Dollar Bill.

He admitted to using his position to defeat legislation that two companies he worked for – CVS and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of RI – opposed.

Martineau is currently eligible to receive $4,800 a year.

He now has 20 days to respond.
