PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — This weekend Rhode Island said goodbye to a man who helped thousands of residents battle addiction.

Jim Gillen helped found the state’s first recovery center — and he advocated for better services to fight substance abuse.

It’s a struggle he knew personally, and something he spoke out about often.

Gillen broke several molds, and is remembered by many as the voice of recovery in Rhode Island.For Gillen’s full obituary, watch the above video.
