REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) — Even though Red Sox first baseman and World Series MVP Steve Pearce grew up in Florida, he has some strong roots in Southern New England.

Pearce’s father, Steve Pearce Sr., grew up in  from Rehoboth. While Pearce didn’t grow up in the town himself, the community is embracing him as one of their own.

“It is a rare chance for that to happen for a small town like Rehoboth, I never would have expected,” Red Sox fan and Rehoboth resident Ken Romanowiz said.

Rehoboth resident Erin Scialdone tells Boston 25 News that Pearce’s name is “all you hear” around town.

“That’s all you hear is his name going around right now, everyone is trying to figure out who he is, who his parents are if they are still around here and stuff, so yeah he is definitely the big buzz around here,” Scialdone said.

Henry Hayes grew up across the street from Pearce’s father on Homestead Avenue. He said the town is proud of the connection, no matter how small it is.

“Whatever connection we have, we’ll take it,” Hayes said.

Pearce and his teammates will celebrate their World Series win on Wednesday during the victory parade in Boston.
