Q&A: National Grid spokesperson on widespread outages

News

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — National Grid Spokesman David Graves joined Eyewitness News to discuss the widespread power outages caused by a powerful, fast-moving storm on Tuesday.

More than 120,000 customers were without electricity at the height of the outages, but crews were able to restore power to about 40,000 by 9 p.m.

Graves said 180 crews were out clearing fallen trees and working to restore power Tuesday, and about 50 will continue to work overnight. He hopes to have all customers back online by Wednesday night.

Graves said their first priority was to make sure all emergency facilities such as hospitals and police and fire stations have power.
