Q&A: Centracchio on Army’s plan to cut troops

News

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Eyewitness News analyst Lt. Gen. Reginald Centracchio joined us Wednesday to discuss the Army’s plan to cut 40,000 troops and 17,000 civilian employees over the next two years.

The cuts would affect all domestic and foreign army posts. Centracchio said as of right now, the Rhode Island National Guard is not part of the plan, but that could change down the road.

He also said with the elections next year, Congress will be pressured to keep the military numbers at current levels. According to Centracchio, the expansion at Quonset with the simulator is something that would have to be looked at.

The general also talked about recent threats to airlines this week and security at airports.
