PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Once named the “Most Romantic Restaurant” in Providence, the city’s love affair with XO Café has come to an end.
The company that operates the North Main Street restaurant announced XO Café has closed its doors for good after 21 years in business. Sunday brunch was the last shift open.
“We want to thank all of our loyal customers over the years,” John Elkhay, CEO and Maestro of Chow Fun Food Group, said in a statement. “Stay tuned for a possible transformation of the XO Café space.”
As for the employees, Natasha Nichols from Chow Fun Food Group said all of the restaurants 18 employees were placed at the company’s other locations, so no workers were laid off due to the closing.
The restaurant was housed in the historic 1799 John Updike House in Providence.
According to its website, XO Café created “a cozy dining and cocktailing atmosphere with a modern culinary experience, perfect for a romantic night out, a family gathering, or a happy hour cocktail in a lively setting.”
Elkhay said all gift cards for XO Café can be redeemed at the company’s other restaurant locations which include, 10 Prime Steak & Sushi, Xaco Taco, Luxe Bar & Burger and all Harry’s Bar & Burger locations.
