PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — For children in Providence, Washington Street was the place to be to trick-or-treat Halloween night.
The Providence Police Department hosted an indoor trick-or-treating event to ensure a “safe, free and family-friendly” environment.
“We want to make sure they really enjoy their night,” Major Oscar Perez said.
Dozens of princesses, superheroes, goblins and ghouls crowded the Providence Public Safety Complex Wednesday night, participating in fun Halloween-themed games and activities, all the while eating their favorite candy.
Perez said this is the first year the police department hosted an event like this one, and he was surprised to see how many people attended.
“I was shocked to see how many people said, ‘Thank you for having this,'” Perez said.
For those who did not attend the event, Perez said the police department amped up patrols for Halloween night. He said officers are extremely vigilant during holidays, especially ones like Halloween where people are walking along the streets.
