PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) – The Seastreak ferry has officially set sail from Providence for everyone interested in traveling to Newport this weekend.
The ferry made its first voyage Friday morning after a group of passengers boarded the Seastreak catamaran at India Point. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is responsible the ferry service – and is encouraging visitors to use it to explore the state’s finest attractions.
The ferry will make the run from Providence to Newport three times a day during the week and four times on weekends. Advantages of taking the ferry include beating traffic and not having to worry about parking.
According to the DOT, if the ferry service is successful, it may expand to other locations.
