PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A pregnant woman is the latest among several people arrested for DUI over this holiday weekend.
According to State Police, Troopers investigated a crash on Service Road in Providence around 11 p.m. Saturday.
They determined that the driver of one of the vehicles involved was intoxicated. That driver, 26 year-old Taja Perry of Pawtucket, is also pregnant.
Troopers charged her with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, specifically Adderall, driving without a license, and obstructing a police officer.
Perry was released to the custody of another adult and is set to appear in court on December 1st for arraignment.
State Police said they also contacted DCYF regarding the incident.
Perry is one of many people arrested around the state for allegedly driving under the influence over the last few days. The Rhode Island DUI Task Force reported 22 arrests in just a 5-hour period from Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Early Thanksgiving morning, Central Falls police reported arresting a 51 year-old woman for allegedly driving drunk with her 8 year-old daughter unrestrained in the back seat, and Friday night a 54 year-old woman crashed into a parked North Kingstown police cruiser on Tower Hill Road while allegedly driving drunk.
