PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A post office in Providence will be renamed for the late community activist Sister Ann Keefe.

The post office at 820 Elmwood Ave. in Providence will be renamed on Sunday for Keefe, who died in January at the age of 62.

The legislation to change the name in honor of the Roman Catholic nun known for her charitable work was sponsored by the state’s congressional delegation.

It was signed into law in May.

Members of the delegation plan to attend the Sunday afternoon ceremony at the post office.

A former teacher and social worker, Keefe joined a ministry at St. Michael the Archangel church and worked for decades to improve education and health, and to help end hunger and homelessness in Rhode Island.
