PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — Dozens of drivers received tickets from Portsmouth police during a recent sting, targeting drivers who failed to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Portsmouth police announced the results of its operation on the department’s Facebook page.

They launched the sting after receiving several complaints of drivers not stopping for people in crosswalks.

Police said an officer in civilian clothes walked the crosswalks on Turnpike Avenue and East Main Road near Portsmouth High School. During an eight-hour period, police said the officer issued tickets to 36 drivers.
