Portable plug-in heaters recalled due to fire, burn risk


EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Heat Hero is recalling approximately 20,000 portable plug-in heaters due to fire and burn hazards.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the portable mini heaters can overheat, smoke and catch fire which poses a burn hazard.

Heat Hero has received 117 reports of the heater overheating, including 47 heaters smoking and 10 catching fire, two resulting in property damage. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The heaters were sold online from October 2018 through March 2019 for between $35 and $45.

Consumers should stop using the heaters and contact Heat Hero for a free replacement unit. The company is contacting all known purchasers directly.

MTD is recalling about 5,000 lawn mowers due to a potential injury hazard.

According to the CPSC, sharp objects can pierce through the mower’s collecting bag during use and hit a user or bystander.

No injuries have been reported.

The Craftsman M350 mowers were sold at Lowe’s stores nationwide and online between January and February 2019 for about $400.

Consumers should immediately stop using the mower and contact and authorized Craftsman Service Center to arrange a free repair.
