FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in Fall River are investigating after a car went into the water near a popular restaurant.

According to police, the incident happened on Davol Street just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The car was reportedly malfunctioning and could not be put into park, causing it to roll over the edge into the water.

City police officials confirm a woman and man were in the car, but the man escaped before the car went over the edge.

The woman was still inside the car when police arrived and had to be rescued. She was not injured, according to police.
