Police swarm Fenner Street home after shooting


PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Pawtucket police responded to a domestic shooting in the city Saturday morning.

Numerous police officers were dispatched to a home at 83 Fenner Street shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday.

According to Major Tina Goncalves, police found a man who had been shot in the face. The suspect had barricaded himself in the basement of the home and police set up a perimeter; about twenty minutes later, the suspect surrendered. A firearm was subsequently located by police in the basement.

The suspect, who’s identified as 59-year-old Joao Andrade, is charged with assault with intent to commit murder, firing in a compact area, failure to have a permit or license for a firearm, and domestic disorderly conduct. Detectives are still determining whether further charges will be brought against Andrade.

The victim, whose name was not released, was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and was released. Police said that he is the suspect’s son-in-law.
