LAWRENCE, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have charged a woman after they say she was trafficking more than 500 grams of fentanyl.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, detectives received a tip that a Lawrence woman, later identified as Rosario Lara, 36, was trafficking fentanyl.

As part of the investigation, undercover officers arranged to meet Lara for a sale on Thursday. Investigators set up surveillance footage near the Tower Hill area of Lawrence where the transaction was completed.

When officers went to arrest Lara following the transaction, police said she attempted to run away, but officers were able to quickly take Lara into custody.

Police said they seized approximately 532 grams of fentanyl during the incident.

Lara is charged with trafficking a Class A narcotic over 200 grams.
