Police searching for suspect who attempted to run over an officer

SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Scituate are asking the public’s help in locating a man who they say assaulted an officer Friday night.

According to the Scituate Police Department, the incident took place near the intersection of Routes 116 and 14.

Police said the man tried to back his vehicle over a police officer. Soon after, the man attempted to drive away from the scene and hit another vehicle head-on.

Police created a perimeter around the intersection after the suspect fled on foot, blocking it off in all four directions as they conducted a search for the suspect. 

Neighbors tell Eyewitness News they heard what they believed to be three gunshots. Eyewitness News saw three evidence markers on the ground inside the perimeter.

The suspect is described as a black male with short, dark hair wearing blue jeans and a yellow shirt.
