LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are asking for the public’s help finding a man who they say fled a traffic stop Friday morning.
According to the Lincoln Police Department, Jefferey Joergensen, 29, of Chepachet, was pulled over on Twin River Road by an officer working a “Click it or Ticket” detail around 10 a.m.
Police said Joergensen was in the driver’s seat and the registered owner of the vehicle was in the passenger’s seat.
Once the officer returned to his cruiser to conduct a background check on Joergensen, police said the officer saw him jump out of the car and run into the woods.
Lincoln officers, along with Rhode Island State Police troopers and members from the K-9 unit, searched for Joergensen for several hours but were unable to find him, according to police.
Police said Joergensen is facing charges for driving in a suspended license, obstruction of justice and possibly other charges pending further investigation. He is also a bail violator from a previous arrest.
Joergensen is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a gray shirt, jeans and a black hat.
Anyone who may know where Joergensen is should call the Lincoln Police at (401) 333-1111.
