Police search for suspects in shooting at Natick hotel

NATICK, Mass. (WPRI) — Guests at the Crown Plaza hotel on Route 9 in Natick were evacuated early Tuesday morning due to reports of an active shooter.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that at least one shot was fired inside the hotel.

The hotel was evacuated while authorities searched for possible suspects. Guests, who were allowed inside a mall across the street, later returned to their rooms.

When officers arrived on scene they did not find any gunshot victims.

Natick Chief James Hicks says the victim told police he was walking in front of the hotel when a car approached him, so he moved into the hotel and a shot was fired. The car then fled the area. The intended target was not struck. His name was not released.

Police are still searching the area for one or more suspects.

What prompted the shooting remains under investigation. Police are reviewing security surveillance video.
