WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The state Department of Children and Families has taken custody of other children living in a Worcester apartment where a 2-year-old girl died after being found unresponsive by police.

A spokeswoman for the agency said in a statement Tuesday the children were removed from the home while the death is investigated by police and DCF officials. The agency would not say if it had previously been involved with the family.

Relatives and neighbors said there were two other children living in the home.

Police said they responded to the home Monday after a receiving a report of a child not breathing. The toddler was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police said they not see any indication of trauma to the girl and the cause of death remains under investigation.Copyright 2015 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
