NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) – Police have recovered a body believed to be that of a man who went missing Thursday.

According to Captain Sean Corrigan of the Narragansett Police Department, police took a report of a body on the beach in Jerusalem at about 9:30 Saturday morning.

The body appeared to match the description of 61-year-old Peter E. Butler, who police said was last seen in the water off Hazard Rocks Thursday afternoon.

He was spotted by two girls and was reportedly fully clothed. A suitcase was also found nearby; police believe Butler had taken a taxi from a Warwick hotel to Hazard Avenue.

Police officers recovered the body and preliminarily identified it as Butler based on his clothing and documents found in his possession.

The body has been turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s office for a positive identification but police said it does not appear there was any foul play involved.
