NORTH READING, Mass. (AP) — Police say a North Reading resident was giving out cough syrup to trick-or-treaters on Halloween.

In a Facebook post, police in the town about 18 miles north of Boston say they received a report of a residence leaving out samples of Hyland’s 4 Kids Cold `n Mucus cough syrup Saturday.

They urged parents to check their children’s candy if they were in the Olde Farm Lane area.

Meanwhile police in the town of Auburn, a suburb of Worcester, Mass. say they received a report of tampered Halloween candy.

In a Facebook post, police say a metallic object about one inch long was found under the wrapper of a Hershey’s miniature chocolate bar.

The candy appears to have come from the Chestnut Avenue area. Police believe it’s an isolated incident.
