Police: Man stabbed during road rage incident in Norton

NORTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man who they say stabbed another man during a road rage incident Thursday evening.

According to the Norton Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call from the victim who said he had been stabbed following a road rage incident on Plain Street around 3:30 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they saw that the victim was bleeding from the chest. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and is in serious condition.

The victim told officers he and another man were involved in a road rage incident that began in Easton and continued into Norton. While in Norton, police said both men stopped their vehicles and confronted one another. The victim then told police the man stabbed him in the chest before fleeing the scene.

According to police, officers were able to locate 49-year-old Alfred Pond at his home in Attleboro. Pond was taken into custody in connection with the incident. He is currently being held at the Norton Police Department.

Police found the knife used in the incident in a wooded area along Pine Street in Norton, about a half mile from where the stabbing took place.

Pond will be arraigned Friday morning on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
