CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have a suspect in custody after a teenager was shot and wounded Sunday night in Central Falls.
According to police, the 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times while riding a bike in the area of Beacon and Perry Streets just after 10 p.m.
He was rushed to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in serious condition but police say he’s expected to make a full recovery.
Detectives collected evidence and tracked the suspected gunman to a Beacon Street address, eventually identifying him as Eric Silva.
Silva, 28, was arrested on charges of felony assault with a firearm and firing in a compact area.
He was arraigned Monday morning and ordered held on $40,000 surety bail.
Dalton Deshaies, who lives near the shooting scene, recalled hearing about six gunshots. He said it’s sad to see violence in that neighborhood in particular.
“All around us are where kids live and right on my right is an elementary school and right behind me to my left is a high school,” Deshaies said. “It’s kind of scary because this is taking place not even 50 feet from an elementary playground.”
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Central Falls Police at (401) 727-7411 or leave an anonymous tip by calling (401) 727-7420.
