TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Forgetting to clear snow off your car after a snowstorm can be a costly and potentially deadly mistake.

Taunton Police said a vehicle traveling on South Walker Street had its window smashed Wednesday morning from a sheet of ice that flew from a box truck.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was covered in glass, according to police.

Police said the box truck did not stop and the incident remains under investigation.

The department shared pictures of the cracked windshield on its Facebook page; the chunk of ice broke through the glass at the top of the driver’s side windshield.

The post also said, “We understand that clearing the snow from your vehicle can be difficult, however if you fail to do so, you can be stopped by police and cited.”

In Massachusetts, police can issue up to a $200 fine for driving with an unsecured load, which can include heavy sheets of snow or ice on a car’s roof.
