PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police are investigating an early morning shooting on Pembroke Avenue.
Police tell Eyewitness News a 26-year-old Providence man was shot in the lower body around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
He was taken into surgery at Rhode Island Hospital.
Police believe the shooting happened during a party in the basement of the home.
They say roughly 30-40 people were outside when they arrived on scene, but no witnesses cooperated.
Police did not find a weapon and no suspect is in custody.
Eyewitness News spoke to the landlord Saturday afternoon. He said police put a nuisance sticker on the front door of the house in September of 2016 after the residents held a large party.
The sticker says, ‘any public nuisance at this address within six months of this notice that requires police intervention will result in a $500 penalty’.
