PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a 28-year-old man was shot near the Providence-Cranston line.

Providence Police Major David Lapatin said the victim claims he was shot while driving his car.

The victim said went to his friend’s house after being shot and the friend drove him to Rhode Island Hospital, according to police.

A large police presence was seen outside of the Zona Lounge on Niantic Avenue overnight.

An officer heard gunshots while pulling over three cars for reckless driving on Elmwood Avenue.

Eyewitness News crews were on scene and saw police using flashlights to look at the sidewalk and street. They were also seen searching through cars in front of the nightclub and evidence markers were laid out along the road.

The person’s injuries are not life-threatening, according to police.

It is unclear if any possible suspects have been identified or if any arrests have been made.
