Police investigate dog found abandoned in box


HOPKINTON, R.I (WPRI) — Hopkinton Police are looking into a possible case of animal cruelty and neglect.

On June 19 at approximately 2 p.m., the police department received a report of an abandoned canine on Woodville Alton Road, near Exit 2.

According to police, the calling party had witnessed the disposal of a box over the guard rail down an embankment. Inside the box, the calling party claimed, was a young Pit Bull Terrier.

The suspect that dropped off the box was described as a black male in a black SUV with Illinois registration, said police.

Patrolman Eastwood responded, located, and took custody of the canine. Since, the canine has been taken to the Richmond Veterinary Clinic where he received treatment, stated a news release.
