Police identify Boston cop shot in leg by drug dealer

News

BOSTON (AP) — Police have identified an officer who was shot in the leg after he pulled over a convicted drug dealer driving on a suspended license.

Boston police Officer Kurt Stokinger is in stable condition at Boston Medical Center. Stokinger has been on the force for nine years and is a member of the drug unit.

Police say Stokinger boxed in 27-year-old Grant Headley’s vehicle on a side street in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood Friday morning, knowing he was on probation.

Police say Headley got out of his vehicle and opened fire in an “unprovoked” attack before running away. He was later caught and arrested.

Authorities say Headley was on probation following his release from a five-year state prison term for gun and drug charges. He will likely be arraigned Monday.
