BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have identified a man who was run over by a truck and killed while he was lying in a donut shop drive-thru lane two weeks ago.

Bristol police said Jose Garcia Acosta, 46, was a Mexican citizen who was living in Bristol at the time of the incident.

A truck making a delivery to the Dunkin Donuts on Metacom Avenue near Franklin Street on August 15 entered the drive-thru lane shortly before 2 a.m., running over Acosta. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He wasn’t an employee of the restaurant, and it was not clear why he was lying down in the lane.

Police said Acosta died directly as a result of being run over by the truck.

Police said the delivery truck driver will not face any criminal charges in the incident.
