NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A North Kingstown man was arrested over the weekend after police say he drove drunk and was involved in a hit-and-run crash, all with a young child in the car.
Eric Medeiros, 34, was arraigned Monday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated (BAC greater than 0.15) and hit and run of an attended vehicle, according to North Kingstown police.
Police said they located and pulled over Medeiros’ vehicle on Sunday after responding to the crash on Tower Hill Road and getting a description of the vehicle that had fled.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers spotted the 3-year-old child in the back seat. The relationship between Medeiros and the child is unclear at this time.
Suspecting Medeiros was intoxicated, the officers administered a field sobriety test, which he failed, according to police.
He was then taken into custody under suspicion of driving drunk. Police said he consented to a chemical test at their headquarters, which revealed he was more than two times the legal limit.
Medeiros is due back in court Nov. 13.
