Police: Coventry fire engine involved in crash

COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — Members of the Coventry Police Department were called to the scene of a crash Tuesday involving a Central Coventry Fire Engine.

According to police, the crash happened at the intersection of Hopkins Hill Road and Tiogue Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. Police said the engine was responding to a medical call with its lights and sirens activated when it hit a vehicle traveling through the intersection. Police said that vehicle, in turn, struck another car stopped on Tiogue Avenue.

The driver of the car hit by the engine was transported to Kent County Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The incident is currently under investigation.
