TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man who they believe to be a suspected drug trafficker.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, officers executed a search warrant for Edward Green Jr., 33, at his apartment on Whittenton Street in Taunton.
Police said that surveillance of the apartment showed Green standing on his front porch smoking prior to their arrival. When the officers arrived at his home, police said Green ran inside the apartment. Police said officers announced several times they had a search warrant as they chased Green inside.
After chasing Green through his apartment, police said he “repeatedly punched and kicked” at the officers while stating that “he wasn’t going anywhere.”
Troopers were finally able to secure Green after a lengthy physical confrontation as he continued to try and flee the kitchen where officers restrained him.
According to police, it took four officers to carry Green into a cruiser due to his physical tirade.
After searching the apartment, officers found approximately 33.5 grams of suspected cocaine, 13 pills of suspected ecstasy, over $700 in cash, a powder suspected of being a cutting agent to mix with drugs prior to selling them and a Ruger LCP .380 pistol loaded with six rounds.
Green is facing several charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm (second offense), commission of a firearm violation while having committed three prior violent or drug crimes, trafficking cocaine, assault and battery on an officer and resisting arrest.
