PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested two women after they say the pair stole a handgun from an off-duty Boston police officer over the weekend.

The two women – identified by police as Melissa Dacier, 22, of Providence and Neish Rivera, 25, of Pawtucket – are accused of stealing the officer’s .40-caliber Glock 22 while hanging out with him at the Hampton Inn where he was staying.

According to the Pawtucket Police Department, the Boston officer said he arranged to meet a woman named “Natalia,” who was actually Rivera, at a bar located inside the hotel.

Police said the officer and Rivera then went to Nara Lounge in Providence to meet up with Dacier. The three then went to Cadillac Lounge before heading back to the Hampton Inn where the officer was staying.

According to police, the three hung out inside the hotel room for a while. At one point, police said Dacier asked for a phone charger. The officer told police he gave Dacier his car keys so she could grab a charger from inside his car.

Once Dacier returned to the hotel room, police said she then told the officer she had to step outside to use her phone. After a while, Rivera then told the officer she had to go find Dacier and left the officer by himself in the hotel room.

Police said once Rivera did not return to the room, the officer went searching for her. That’s when he told police he noticed his handgun was not where he’d left it inside his car.

According to police, the officer said he kept his weapon inside the glove box of his car, which he secured by a cable lock. He also told police he left the key to that lock in his cup holder.

Police arrested Rivera and Dacier just hours after the officer reported his gun was missing.

The women were arraigned Monday and were ordered held as bail violators. Dacier had previously been arrested on a felony assault charge and police confirmed Rivera was one of the Foxy Lady dancers charged with prostitution back in December.

Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré said the gun was dropped off at a fire station on Hartford Ave. in Providence. An unidentified person called the department to let them know it was there.

According to Boston police, the officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Police are not identifying the officer at this time.
