CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) — Cumberland police are investigating what caused a car to crash through a guardrail and go over the edge of a parking lot.

According to police at the scene, the incident happened Thursday evening in the area of Dexter Street and Curran Road.

Police said a vehicle heading south went through a stop sign and collided with a Nissan Pathfinder that was traveling East on Dexter Street. As a result, police said the Pathfinder ran through the guardrail and fell down into the parking lot below.

The female driver of the Pathfinder was alert, according to police, but was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and was cited for going through the stop sign, police said.

Both vehicles had to be towed away from the scene.
