Police: 1 dead after Coventry rollover accident

COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — A man died Monday after the car he was in rolled over on Sandy Bottom Road in Coventry. It happened around 4:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located the driver, an unconscious male, still trapped inside the car. Police said officers were able to free the man, who was transported to Kent County Hospital for treatment.

According to police, the man later died at the hospital.

Police said the crash is under investigation but preliminary findings reveal he may have had a medical event while driving.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.

During the incident, two Coventry police officers were injured while trying to free the man. Both officers were transported to Kent but were later released.
