Mounted patrol units have been around for centuries. But we’ve learned many police departments across the country, including Boston, have done away with them.
In this time of budget cuts, the Providence Police Mounted Command is still going strong. Spend a summer night out in downtown Providence and you’ll likely hear a sound that’s echoed on these streets for more than a century.
“We’re out every night of the week,” said Lt. Michelle Guerrette, officer in charge for the mounted patrol.
Eyewitness News got access to the police stables in Roger Williams Park, where the horses eat, sleep and prepare for a day’s work.
