CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Slippery roads played a role in an eight-car crash in Cranston Thursday morning.
Police received reports of a pedestrian struck and a multi-car crash where Walnut Grove Avenue meets Atwood Avenue around 7:45 a.m. The incident occurred right in front of a business called Cranston Collision Center.
Cranston police said there was initially a 5-vehicle crash in the intersection. One of the drivers involved in the first crash was outside her car when the driver of another car lost control.
That car struck a parked car, which then hit the driver, who police identified as 18-year-old Taylor Pernini. The entire second crash was caught on surveillance camera (see below footage).
Dennis Gamba, owner of the collision center, escaped the the crash. In the footage, he is the man in front of Pernini.
“Things definitely could have unfolded a lot worse,” he said.
Police said Pernini was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was treated and released.
They said the cause of the crash was the weather and officers did not give citations to any of the drivers involved.
