Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Providence


PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A 73-year-old man died after being hit by a car on Allens Avenue, Providence police confirmed Sunday afternoon.

Lt. Richard Fernandes said the victim was struck at 2:30 p.m. while crossing Allens Avenue near Swan Street. The car was traveling south when it collided with the man, who was thrown into the air and landed in the northbound lane. Police say the driver remained on the scene.

There isn’t a crosswalk going across Allens Avenue at that particular intersection.

The Providence police accident reconstruction team was investigating on the scene for several hours. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. No citations have been issued.Eyewitness News is following this story and will bring you updates as they become available.
