PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — RXBAR, a maker of “whole food” goods like protein bars, has issued a recall of certain varieties of their protein bars because they may contain undeclared peanuts.
The affected bars pose a serious, potentially life-threatening risk of reaction to people who are allergic to peanuts, the Rhode Island Department of Health said in a news release Friday afternoon.
RXBAR and RXBAR Kids products from certain ‘best by’ dates are affected, including these varieties:
- RXBAR: Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Hazelnut, Chocolate Sea Salt, Coconut Chocolate, Coffee Chocolate, Mango Pineapple, Maple Sea Salt, Mint Chocolate, Mixed Berry, Pumpkin Spice
- RXBAR Kids: Apple Cinnamon Raisin, Berry Blast, Chocolate Chip
The company advises you to check the full, comprehensive list on their website because the dates and varieties vary.
The recall comes after a recall back in December of Chocolate Sea Salt and Coconut Chocolate. RXBAR says they’re expanding the recall out of an abundance of caution because they’ve had reports from consumers of allergic reactions to other varieties.
If you have a product on the recall list, throw it away and contact the store where you bought it, or the RXBAR corporation, for a replacement or full refund. You can contact RXBAR’s customer service through their website or by calling (312) 624-8200.
