(WPRI) — Tom Brady and the New England Patriots will host the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday.
The Chargers took care of the Baltimore Ravens this afternoon in Baltimore 23-17. The Patriots and Chargers last met during the regular season last year, with the Pats taking that one 21-13.
This is the ninth straight bye for the Patriots. They are also 12-2 in the Divisional Round in the Brady and Bill Belichick era.
Brady and Philip Rivers have previously met twice in the playoffs. In the 2006 Divisional Playoffs, the Patriots beat the no. 1 seed Chargers 24-21. The two the played again the following year in the AFC Championship, with Brady again getting the win 21-12.
This year, the Chargers head into Foxboro with a better regular season record at 12-4, than the Patriots who are 11-5. The way NFL playoff seeding works, the Pats ended up no. 2 with the Chargers at no 5, meaning they would get home field advantage in this game.
As some Patriots fans may remember, they missed the playoffs in 2008 with the same 11-5 record they have this year. The Chargers, on the other hand, won the AFC West with an 8-8 record that year.
